The following is a partial summary of some of OSHA and ANSI requirements;

1910-179 J-1.ii.A	Frequent Inspection: Performed daily by the Crane Operator.
1910-179 J-2.ii.A	Frequent Hook Inspection: Signed documentation required & performed monthly
910-179 J-2.iv	Frequent Hoist Chain Inspection: Signed documentation required & performed monthly.
11910-179 J-3	Periodic Inspection: All cranes shall be inspected at least once every 12 months, and as Often as monthly, depending on its service class and operating environment. Signed Documentation is required.
1910-179 J-4.ii	Periodic Inspection: A crane that has been idle for 6 months or more, prior to placing into service, shall have a complete inspection, with documentation required.
1910-179 j-4.iii	Periodic Inspection: Stand by cranes shall be inspected semi-annually, with Documentation required.
1910-179 K-1	Initial Start Up: Operational and certified Load Test, with signed documentation
1910-179 L-1	Preventative Maintenance: As established by the Crane Manufacturer with documentation required.
1910-179 M-1	Frequent Wire Rope Inspection: Signed documentation required & performed monthly

What are the requirements of the Crane inspector?
ASME/ANSI B30.2-1991	Specifies that cranes shall be inspected by a designated person to insure compliance with all applicable provisions of this said volume.
ANSI B30.2-1991 and CMAA spec. # 70,Rev.1988	Defines qualified as follows: A person who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training and experience has successfully demonstrated the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject matter and work
